This is my mom's handwriting on the back of the picture. Seeing my mom's writing is very peaceful and nostalgic for me. It's familiar. It has barely changed over the years. This same writing that exists in my baby book also adorns cards sent to my sons. I love it.
This is my punk ass little sister. She's wearing a ballet leotard and has long hair. She was graceful and girly and gorgeous and I was a tom-boy with short hair. She was also free-spirited, wild, and independent minded. She was smart without trying and outgoing. I was shy, awkward, quiet, internal. We were so different for as far back as I can remember. She was 5 here.
Again, my mom's writing. Having long hair was a bit of an event, although I'm not sure who she was writing this message to.
My dad was a police officer back then and worked a lot. My mom also worked. She had to get three kids (I also have a younger brother) ready for school, fed and out of the house in the mornings. She had no time to mess with girl hair. We usually had very short hair when we were little. Trust me, it wasn't pretty.

This is the picture my sister has been asking for.
It was taken in 2001 (I think) when my sister was visiting me in the DC area. I have no clue what we were laughing about. There is a good possibility that we were fake laughing for the picture.
I love this picture for the expressions that we have. I have it in a frame and it sits on my dresser. We called this haircut the "fuzzy duck butt" because it was so blond and soft and short. When you rubbed the back of it, well, it felt like what a little fuzzy baby chick felt like.
There are a couple of things that I hate about this picture, though.
Like my hair. What the hell? It looks horribly librarian-ish. Second: that color of a yellow shirt. I have not bought a single yellow garment since this picture was taken. Yellow does not look good on me and it took this picture to make me admit that. It makes my teeth look icky yellow too. ugh. And I really hate that it looks like my sister had a double chin. She didn't. Yet this picture makes it look like there's one.
See. Here she is again. She's so pretty that sometimes it actually pisses me off. Look at those biceps man. Brutal. No double chin.
She has three red-headed kids (actually, one is blond) and she doesn't look old enough to drive. {that's some kind of happy there in the back, too, huh...?}
But she's still goofy enough to act like a tool when blowing out candles on her incredibly cute cake that her super glamorous sister secretly had delivered to her girls night out birthday party last week.
Love you, Nic. Keep up the crazy.
That's it. This flashback post has been brought to you by request of Nicole. And sort of turned into more of a tribute than a flashback. So I am off the hook for not sending a mother's day card...

9 awesome people had somethin' to say...:
I love it. I think I gave her the "fuzzy duck butt" hair cut (which is also what I called it!) with blue handled kindergarten scissors outside my dorm. you will have to ask her...
Aaaaaaaand she does look soooooooooo great in that pict with Noah, but I am sure she's know's that too ;)
I love how your mom and Nic have the same handwriting-so crazy!
P.S. You don't need to hate Nicole because of how pretty she is. You are gorgeous too Danielle! :) Great looks run in the fam, for sure!
Oh my god, Lauren! You are so right...
They absolutely have the same handwriting and I never even noticed that until just now...! Weird!!!
