NHTSA Recall Alert System

A friend of mine works for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the Recall Management Division.

Today she sent this email:

"My agency, NHTSA, has a new recall alert system for child seats and tires where you can register your email and be notified very quickly after we are notified by the manufacturer about an upcoming recall and what the manufacturer is planning on doing and when. I encourage you all to take advantage of this free service so you can get important safety information quickly and reliably and aren’t relying on the mailed notifications which are much slower to come and always at risk of being thrown out with other junk mail. Also, how many of us really registered our tires or child seat at purchase and who has moved since then?"

"Registration for your vehicle is not available yet, but I understand that’s in the works."

"To register go to
www.safercar.gov and look under the green defects and recall section for the link “email recall notifications.”"

I just did it. It was super easy.

It looks like you register for every recall, though, and not just the ones concerning your stuff. However, before you hit submit, it indicates that the NHTSA only receives about 20 tire recalls per year, and 8 child restraint recalls per year. Compared to all that inappropriate SPAM I get, this is nuthin'.

Well.... why are you still here? Go...

*Oh! Just edited to add: It looks like they also have RSS Feed updates that you can subscribe to. Nifty!

2 awesome people had somethin' to say...:

I think we just proved that people who read your blog want humor and wit. Not safety warnings, oh well. This comment section was lonely.
